Takoradi, July 9, GNA – The Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA) in the Western Region is to observe the two-day national general clean-up exercise as directed by the government.

The exercise, scheduled for Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, 2026, formed part of the government’s post-flooding mitigation measures after recent devastating flooding incidents were recorded across parts of the country.

A statement signed by the Public Relations Office of the EKMA and copied to the Ghana News Agency said the municipal-wide exercise would be observed from 0700 hours to 1100 hours each day.

It said Friday, July 10, had been designated for government and private institutions, and market women and traders, while Saturday, July 11, had also been allocated for residents, shops, and the public.

The statement noted that vehicular movements within the municipality would be restricted, and all shops and stores closed until 1100 hours on Saturday to facilitate the full participation of all residents in the clean-up exercise.

It called on all residents, institutions, traders, and other stakeholders to actively participate in the exercise to help ensure a cleaner environment for all.

“The Assembly further encourages that the clean-up exercise must include the weeding of bushy areas, and the desilting of all clogged gutters and drainages,” it added.
