Wenchi (Bono), July 11, GNA – Mrs Christiana Opoku, the Wenchi Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission (EC) has cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against vote buying in the party’s constituency elections.
She emphasised that vote buying did not only violate electoral laws, but undermined the integrity of an election, and cautioned the NPP candidates contesting the various constituency executive positions to eschew the bad and unacceptable practice.
Mrs Opoku gave the caution in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Wenchi in the Bono Region.
She said 1,206 delegates were expected to cast their ballots in the elections which were underway in the constituency.
Mrs Opoku explained that the delegates were drawn from 148 polling stations spread across the 29 Electoral Areas deciding on 27 candidates.
She indicated that two candidates were contesting unopposed for the Nasara Organiser and the Communications officer position.
Mrs Opoku said three candidates vied for the chairmanship slot, two candidates for the first vice chairman and four candidates for the second vice chairman positions.
She added that two candidates were also contesting for secretary, three candidates for deputy secretary, four candidates for organiser, two candidates for women’s organiser, two candidates for treasurer and three candidates for the youth organiser positions.
Mrs Opoku assured smooth and credible elections, with the support and cooperation of the NPP’s election committee in the constituency.
