Nkoranza (Bono East), July 23, GNA – Mr Bismarck Appiah, the Bono East Regional Director of the Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET), has urged basic school graduates to choose and pursue TVET programmes.
He said the government had transformed TVET education, saying that with TVET they could create jobs for themselves.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nkoranza in the region, Mr Appiah advised parents against imposing academic courses on their children, urging families to consider the talents and abilities of their children.
He said it was wrong that TVET was a reserve for the academically poor; neither TVET schools were meant for the less privileged in society.
Mr Appiah said that: “People with technical skills and knowhow are doing great in life,” and highlighted the essential contributions of professionals like electrical engineering, welder and fabricators as well as fashion designers, towards national development.
He said that: “Going to technical school does not mean you aren’t smart enough and many skilled individuals are running successful businesses and creating jobs for others too”.
Mr Appiah entreated families to recognise and help nurture the talents of their children, instead of forcing them to pursue certain academic programmes.
