East Legon, (G/A) July 08, GNA – Rev Dr Lawrence Tetteh, the President of Worldwide Miracle Outreach, has urged Ghana citizens to be more environmentally conscious to guard against looming disasters resulting from poor environmental practices.

He called for a massive and an all-inclusive united front to confront the prevailing day- to – day canker of poor sanitation and the annual ritual of flooding besetting the nation anytime the rains come down.

Linking the menace of irresponsible environmental habits to the incident of flooding, he charged citizens who dispose refuse indiscriminately to desist from the practice to avoid drains being choked.

In an interview on the role of the clergy in educating citizens on environmental responsibility at the sidelines of the Eighth Speech, Prize and Graduation ceremony of North Hills International School, he said though the recent flooding incident caused massive destruction, the deaths and destruction were avoidable at certain places.

“People must take responsibility for their actions and these acts of impunity where people build anywhere without recourse to existing laws and regulations must stop,” Rev Dr Tetteh said.

He was of support to the fact that buildings sited at wrong places and where the rules of building construction had been flouted would suffer the consequences, adding that, addressing the challenge must begin from somewhere.

According to him, “this is the only nation we have and as such we must all come together to build it for posterity not to judge us to have left a regrettable legacy.”

Citizens, he mentioned, should be law- abiding and environmentally responsible for social harmony and environmental sanity to prevail, adding such needless deaths and destruction could be averted if we live right with our environment and laws of the land.

Dr Tetteh reminded society that cleanliness was next to godliness, adding that there must be an aggressive policy approach to tackling sanitation in public places.

He called on all citizens to back the president in ongoing efforts to tackle challenges besetting the nation at the forefront of national development.

In a piece of advice to parents at the evented Tetteh urged parents to encourage and support their children in the learning of foreign languages such as French and Chinese being studied in the school, adding that, it would better place them in the scheme of professional fortunes.
