Central Tongu MP engages ECG over relocation of electricity poles at Mafi Kpogadzi

Adidome (V/R), July 31, GNA – Mr Alexander Roosevelt Hottordze, MP for Central Tongu, has engaged the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to urgently relocate and reconstruct electricity poles at Mafi Kpogadzi damaged by recent flooding.

The intervention seeks to restore the integrity of the electricity distribution network, improve public safety, and ensure a more resilient power supply system for residents.

In a letter addressed to the General Manager of the ECG Tema Regional Office, Mr Hottordze said the flooding had significantly affected electricity infrastructure in the area, resulting in the uprooting, damage and destruction of several distribution poles.

He said consultations with community leaders and an assessment of the affected areas revealed that changes in the terrain caused by the floods had made it necessary to review the existing alignment of some electricity poles.

The MP therefore appealed to ECG to conduct a technical assessment and reroute the affected infrastructure through a safer and more sustainable alignment to enhance the long-term stability and reliability of electricity supply to the community.

Mr Hottordze assured the power distribution company of his readiness to finance the cost of materials required for the exercise and requested the ECG technical team to undertake a site inspection, prepare the necessary material requirements and provide a cost estimate to facilitate the immediate commencement of the works.

He said access to reliable electricity remained critical to the socio-economic wellbeing of the people of Mafi Kpogadzi, supporting education, healthcare delivery, household activities, and local economic development.

Mr Hottordze expressed appreciation to ECG for its continued collaboration in extending quality electricity services to communities and appealed for urgent attention to the request to minimise the impact of the damaged infrastructure on residents.

Meanwhile, residents of Mafi Kpogadzi have expressed optimism that the proposed intervention would address the current challenges, improve public safety and ensure a more reliable electricity supply.

They appealed to the relevant authorities and stakeholders to expedite processes towards the completion of the work.
