Accra, July 16, GNA – Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG) has donated assorted relief items to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to support flood victims and pledged collaboration to strengthen disaster preparedness.
The donation, presented at NADMO’s headquarters in Accra, forms part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility initiatives aimed at supporting vulnerable communities during emergencies.
Mrs Naomi Wolali Kwetey, Managing Director of CBG, said the bank considered it a responsibility to support communities in which it operated, especially during difficult times.
“Today we are here at NADMO to present some items for the flood victims. As an institution, we remain responsible to the environment in which we work, and we know that after the heavy rains, some families and communities have been affected.
“As our slogan says, CBG stands with you. We are here today to support the flood victims and help alleviate some of the difficulties they are facing,” she said.
The items donated included bags of rice, sugar, student mattresses, mosquito nets, sprays, blankets and other essential supplies identified as immediate needs of affected persons.
Mrs Kwetey said the bank consulted NADMO before the donation to ensure the relief package responded to the needs of victims.
“Before we decided on the things to donate, we engaged NADMO and they gave us a list. The reason is simple; we wanted to see how best we could meet the needs of the flood victims,” she said.
Mrs Kwetey expressed CBG’s readiness to establish a closer working relationship with NADMO to support disaster management and emergency relief interventions.
She said the bank would maintain regular engagement with NADMO to explore areas where it could contribute to disaster risk reduction, preparedness and emergency response efforts.
Mrs Kwetey also underscored the vital role of the private sector in complementing government efforts during emergencies.
“What we have done today is an example of how the private sector can stand by communities in times of need. We are all Ghanaians, and a little contribution from each individual and institution can make a significant difference in people’s lives,” she said.
The donation is expected to bolster ongoing relief efforts by NADMO as it provides assistance to households and communities affected by recent flooding incidents in parts of the country.
Torrential rains that began on June 29 triggered widespread flooding across several communities in the Greater Accra Region, inundating homes, businesses and major roads, while disrupting economic and social activities across the capital.
