Aflao (V/R), July 22, GNA- Efforts to strengthen security and improve service delivery at Ghana’s busiest land border have received a boost as the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) at Aflao rolled out a comprehensive capacity-building programme for its officers.
The initiative, which has drawn participation and support from key security and regulatory agencies at the border, is aimed at enhancing coordination, professionalism and operational efficiency in managing cross-border movements.
Deputy Commissioner of Immigration (DCOI), Mr Mark Asamoah-Boakye, Aflao Sector Commander, said the training was designed to equip officers with relevant skills to respond to emerging threats, technological changes and evolving migration trends.
He noted that Aflao remained a strategic entry point within the sub-region, making it imperative for officers to continuously upgrade their knowledge and competencies to effectively safeguard national security.
The programme, scheduled from July to December 2026, will cover key operational areas including customer service, basic French for profiling, document fraud detection, communication, regional geography, as well as human trafficking and migrant smuggling.
Mr Asamoah-Boakye urged participants to actively engage in the sessions and apply the knowledge acquired to improve their daily interactions with travellers and communities along the border.
Heads and representatives from agencies such as Customs, Police, Port Health of Ghana Health Service, Food and Drugs Authority and the Small Arms Commission expressed confidence that the training would strengthen inter-agency collaboration and enhance border management.
The programme is on the theme: “Enhancing Professional Excellence in Service Delivery.”
