Glasgow (Scotland), July 29, GNA – Mr Samson Deen, President of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) – Ghana, has fulfilled a pledge to reward medal-winning athletes by presenting a £2,000 cash bonus to para-athlete Zinabu Issah.

This comes after her silver medal-winning performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in the women’s F57 shot put, where she recorded a season-best throw of 8.65 metres to secure Ghana’s first medal of the Games.

The cash reward was presented by NPC Ghana General Secretary Mr Henry Larbi on behalf of Mr Deen, who had earlier announced a Special Target Podium Medal Bonus Scheme for para-athletes.

Mr Larbi commended Zinabu for her dedication and for bringing honour to Ghana on the international stage, describing her achievement as a source of inspiration for the country’s para-athletes.

He lauded Zinabu’s hardwork over the past years, adding that she should aim higher especially ahead of the 2028 Paralympics.

After receiving the cash reward, Zinabu expressed gratitude to Mr Deen for his kind gesture and said it would also motivate her.

According to Issah, she was overwhelmed by the praise she has received following her silver medal-winning achievement and thanked all Ghanaians for their support.

She also thanked her coach Emmanuel Anum Sowah for his guidance and support over the years.

Issah’s medal has been widely celebrated within Ghana’s para-sport community and has boosted morale among Team Ghana athletes competing at this year’s Commonwealth Games.
