Accra, June 18, GNA – Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz praised midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi following his impressive performance in the Black Stars’ 1-0 victory over Panama at the ongoing FIFA World Cup.

The FC Nordsjælland midfielder scored the only goal of the match to hand Ghana their first win of the tournament, leaving them second in the group, level on points with England.

Yirenkyi, who replaced Thomas Partey after the latter missed the match due to visa issues, brought energy and tenacity to Ghana’s midfield, driving his side forward and supporting attacking play.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, coach Queiroz expressed confidence in the young midfielder’s future.

“There is no doubt that, in my humble opinion, he (Caleb Yirenkyi) will be a great midfield player for Ghana. He is still young and has a lot to learn, but if he is able to do this with this side, I think he can be a player who will have a great impact on our team,” he said.

Yirenkyi, who has now scored in Ghana’s last two matches, would be aiming to maintain his form when the Black Stars face England in their next Group L fixture on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
