Mafi Kumase (V/R), June 23, GNA – The Dufia of Mafi Abude in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region, Togbe Awuku Kyerekwa Bokor III, has appealed to the Government to expedite action on the completion of the stalled administration block project at the Mafi Kumase Senior High Technical School (MAKSTEC).

He said the delay in completing the facility was adversely affecting the smooth administration and academic activities of the school, which currently serves more than 2,000 students from Mafi Kumase and neighbouring communities.

Togbe Awuku made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on the sidelines of the dedication of 90 choir robes to the MAKSTEC School Choir at Mafi Kumase.

The traditional ruler explained that the two-storey administration block project was initiated in 2022 under the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) as part of efforts to improve infrastructure at the school.

He said the project was being executed alongside a three-storey six-unit GETFund teachers’ accommodation facility, which had been completed and was currently occupied by teachers, while work on the administration block had stalled at the lintel level and had since been abandoned.

According to him, the abandoned structure was gradually deteriorating due to prolonged exposure to harsh weather conditions, raising concerns among school authorities and members of the community.

“The completion of the administration block is very important to the efficient management of the school. At the moment, the administration is operating from a six-unit classroom block that was converted into office space because there is no dedicated administrative facility,” he said.

Togbe Awuku Kyerekwa Bokor noted that the arrangement was inadequate and had deprived the school of much-needed classroom space for teaching and learning.

“The current structure being used as the administration block does not befit the status of a senior high technical school of this size. The school has grown significantly over the years and requires a modern administrative facility to support its operations,” he stated.

The Chief expressed concern that the prolonged delay in completing the project was affecting administrative efficiency and the overall learning environment and appealed to Government, GETFund and other stakeholders in the education sector to prioritise the project for immediate completion.

He also commended the teaching and non-teaching staff of the school for their dedication and commitment despite the infrastructural challenges confronting the institution.

Established on October 24, 1983, as a community day secondary school, MAKSTEC was created to provide quality secondary and technical education to the youth within the Central Tongu District and beyond. The school was subsequently absorbed into the public educational system in 1991.

Over the years, the institution has grown in enrolment and reputation, emerging as one of the notable second-cycle institutions in the area. However, it continues to face infrastructural deficits, including inadequate administrative facilities and other essential infrastructure required to cater for its increasing student population.

Residents, parents and community leaders have therefore joined the call on Government to complete the administration block project to enhance academic work and promote the overall development of the school.
