Pope: to prisoners, ‘every man is worthy, the past does not condemn the future’

Montserrat, June 10, (Dav/Adnkronos/GNA) – ‘Lion in Brians prison, to everyone I say ‘God loves you as you are but dreams of you better’

“Even if oppression and sadness mark some moments of your journey, remember that the mistakes of life do not determine a person’s identity.” The Pope, in Montserrat, visits the Brians 1 prison center, and speaks with his heart in the hands of the prisoners.

“Every human being is ‘worthy’ for the simple fact “of having been willed, created and loved by God”. There is, therefore, no situation that will cause the Lord to look away from us. It is a consoling truth that accompanies us at all times and that reminds us how his merciful love is always above what good or evil we have done.”

This, Leo observes, applies in a particular way, “to you, dear brothers and sisters, who carry the burden of being away from your loved ones and, moreover, suffer because of your current condition. When you are tempted to feel inferior and you think it is not worth moving forward, “get your gaze up” towards the One who, through the presence of so many people, never ceases to show you his love and closeness.”

Pope Prevost, to the prisoners, reminds the prisoners that St. Augustine, in his Confessions, tells us about his life path and talks about it.

“If we trust in divine grace and we allow ourselves to be guided and transformed, we discover how in our life, the past does not condemn the future, but offers us the opportunity to change our decisions and our choices.”

He continued, “let us make room for the Lord in our hearts and seek his face. Let us be accompanied by his love. To each of you I say God loves you as you are, but he dreams of you better!”

Leo said, “the Lord allows all of us to always start over, because to be human and to be a Christian does not consist in not making mistakes, but in growing in the ability to convert, repent, amend and, above all, to reconcile and forgive.”
