“Following the deployment of the special team, a family member on June 13, 2026, identified a photograph of the deceased,” a press release issued by the Police Public Affairs Department and copied the Ghana News Agency said on Sunday.

It said the Dean of Students of the University was subsequently informed and, together with Police officers and family members, proceeded to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital Mortuary, where the body was formally identified.

“A careful examination of the body in the presence of the family revealed no visible physical injuries,” the release said.

The Regional Crime Scene Team also visited and processed the scene as part of ongoing investigations.

The body remains at the mortuary pending an autopsy to determine the cause of death, it added.

“The Ghana Police Service assures the family of the deceased, the University community and the public that every effort is being made to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the release said.

“The Service remains committed to conducting a thorough investigation and will get to the bottom of the matter.”
