Accra, June 29, GNA — The New Patriotic Party Minority Women’s Caucus in Parliament has condemned the alleged violent attack on former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Madam Sarah Adwoa Safo, calling for swift and impartial justice.

In a statement issued by the Caucus on Monday to the Ghana News Agency, it said, it received the reports “with profound shock and concern,” following an incident at a family-related event at Kwabenya.

Madam Safo was allegedly shot at multiple times on Sunday, June 21, while sitting in her vehicle outside the residence of her brother, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, and was reported to have sustained injuries during the attack.

“We unequivocally condemn every form of violence against women, irrespective of the circumstances under which it occurs.

“No woman should be subjected to intimidation, assault, or the use of firearms in the course of exercising her lawful rights or participating in family or public affairs,” it stated.

The statement expressed solidarity with the former MP and wished her “a full and speedy recovery.”

It also commended the Ghana Police Service for the steps taken so far and urged investigators to pursue the matter “thoroughly, professionally, and without fear or favor,” adding that those found culpable “must be made to face the full rigors of the law,” and that “justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done.”

Describing the incident as a “stark reminder of the need to protect women from violence in all its forms,” the Caucus stressed that acts of brutality and intimidation had no place in a democratic society governed by the rule of law.

The statement reaffirmed the Caucus’s commitment to advocate for the safety, dignity, and protection of every woman in Ghana and called on citizens to reject violence and support peaceful dispute resolution.
