Moscow, June 11 (RIA Novosti/GNA) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed hope on Thursday that most African leaders will come to Russia in October to attend the Russia-Africa summit in person.
“We hope that most African leaders will be able to participate in person in this forum, as will African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf,” Lavrov said at a meeting with African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security Bankole Adeoye.
Last week, Tatiana Dovgalenko, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Department for Partnership with Africa, told RIA Novosti that many African countries had confirmed their plans to send delegations to the summit.
The third Russia-Africa Summit will take place in Moscow from October 28-29. It aims to bolster high-level political dialogue, foster unity against common challenges and threats, advance trade and deepen economic ties between Russia and Africa. The inaugural summit was hosted by the Russian resort of Sochi in 2019.
