Dambai (O/R), June 18, GNA – Mr Prosper Addo, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Krachi West, has urged caretakers and family members of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to ensure that resources provided to beneficiaries are used for their intended purposes.
The MCE made the call during a presentation ceremony at Kete Krachi, where 72 persons with disabilities received items and financial assistance under the District Assembly Common Fund support programme for PWDs.
The beneficiaries received refrigerators, fufu pounding machines, industrial sewing machines, hair dryers, cassava grinding machines, baking ovens, agrochemicals and cash support to enhance their livelihoods and promote self-reliance.
Mr Addo said the intervention formed part of the Government’s commitment to improving the welfare of persons with disabilities by providing them with the tools and resources needed to engage in productive economic activities.
He stressed the importance of ensuring that the items reached their intended beneficiaries and were utilised effectively to achieve the objectives of the programme.
“These items are meant to support beneficiaries in improving their livelihoods and becoming economically independent. Caretakers and family members must therefore ensure that the support is used for the purpose for which it was provided,” he added
Mr Addo noted that the misuse of the items could undermine efforts to improve the living conditions of persons with disabilities and reduce the impact of the intervention.
He appealed to families and guardians to provide the necessary support and supervision to help beneficiaries derive maximum benefit from the assistance.
Madam Christiana Alegi Addai, the Chairperson of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations in Krachi West, commended the Government and the Assembly for the support, describing the intervention as timely and beneficial.
Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the assistance, saying it would help expand their businesses, improve their incomes and strengthen their ability to live independently.
