Iran, June 2, (Vsn/Adnkronos/GNA) – Iran has announced a three-day state funeral for Supreme Guide Ali Khamenei, who was killed in his home in central Tehran by the attacks by the United States and Israel on the first day of the conflict, on February 28. The ceremony, initially scheduled for March 4, had been postponed due to the protracted war.
Tehran’s deputy mayor, Mohammad Amin Tavakolizadeh, quoted by state television, said a three-day public funeral was scheduled, without indicating a precise date, but assuming a run at the beginning of the month of Muharram, around mid-June.
The ceremonies will be held in Tehran and the holy cities of Qom and Mashhad, where Khamenei will be buried. “In Tehran the ceremony will last at least 24 hours,” he added.
There is an estimating participation of up to 20 million people.
