Apollo (W/R), June 04, GNA – Traditional authorities in Ahantaland have vowed to restore the authority and prestige of the Ahanta chieftaincy.

The Chiefs have therefore jointly declared July as Ahanta Heritage Month to strengthen customs and promote development.

Nana Nzafram IV, the Chief of Ahanta Himakrom and Adontenhene of the Ahanta Traditional Area and a kingmaker, said this at the annual meeting of Ahanta kingmakers at Apollo in the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Area of the Western Region.

He noted that steps were being taken to revive the chieftaincy institution.

“We are assuring the good people of Ahantaland that efforts are underway to restore that authority and prestige through both spiritual and physical means to pave the way for sustainable development,” he said.

Nana Eziaku IV, Divisional Chief of Ahanta Agona and Tufuhene of the Ahanta Traditional Area, reminded kingmakers of their core mandate to uphold truth, justice, and peace.

He urged them to maintain the good legacy of their ancestors and lamented ongoing chieftaincy disputes in the area.

“It is our responsibility as Nananom and kingmakers to stand for the truth. Only the truth will bring peace and enable the installation of a legitimate Otumfo Baidoo Bonsoe for the Ahanta Traditional Area,” he added.

Nana Obo Atta Kukuamoa IV, Divisional Chief of Takoradi Amanful and Kontihene of the Ahanta Traditional Area, said the Heritage Month would be marked annually to strengthen Ahanta customs and traditions.
