Twifo Hemang (C/R), June 24, GNA – Mr Kwabena Minta Akandoh, Minister of Health, has assured citizens that the newly introduced free primary health care policy will not replace the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) but will rather complement it to improve efficiency in healthcare delivery.
He gave the assurance at the launch of the initiative at Twifo Hemang in the Central Region.
Mr Akandoh noted that the previous government introduced Agenda 111, which aims to construct hospitals across the country, with plans to complete 35 facilities this year, including the Twifo District Hospital.
He explained that the free primary healthcare policy would be implemented at Community Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds and polyclinics, while the NHIS would continue to cover services at district hospitals and higher-level facilities.
Dr Daniel Baah, District Health Director for Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira, said the policy would enhance access to healthcare services and reduce financial barriers faced by residents.
Mr Patrick Fiable, District Chief Executive for Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira, expressed appreciation to President John Mahama for the initiative, stating that it would greatly benefit residents, particularly the vulnerable.
He urged the public to prioritise their health and seek early treatment to prevent complications.
