Dambai (O/R) June 16, GNA – Madam Rubatu Anas and her husband, Mr Abass Kofi, have appealed to Ghanaians, and the Government in particular, for support to seek medical intervention for their four-year-old son, who developed serious health complications after undergoing surgery at the Koforidua Central Hospital.
Madam Anas, in a video made available to the Ghana News Agency, said the child was able to walk and speak normally until he developed a hernia at the age of one year and eight months.
She said the child was admitted to the Koforidua Central Hospital for surgical treatment but allegedly developed complications after the procedure, which affected his ability to walk and speak.
Madam Anas said the child’s condition had placed a significant emotional and financial burden on the family.
She explained that she had been forced to suspend her food vending business to care for the child full-time, leading to loss of income and the dismissal of her workers.
She said the family had sought help from various sources, including religious leaders, herbal practitioners and traditional healers, but the child’s condition had not improved.
“I am appealing for support and justice for my son,” she said, noting that the situation had caused the family considerable psychological and economic hardship.
Madam Anas appealed to President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister of Health, Mr Kwabena Akandoh and other relevant authorities to facilitate specialised medical assessment and treatment for the child.
In a telephone interview with the GNA, Mr Kofi, her husband, who is a welder based in Accra and a native of Kparekpare in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region, said the family had exhausted most of their resources in efforts to secure treatment for their son.
He stated that they had sold plots of land and a vehicle to finance medical care and related expenses.
Mr Kofi also disclosed that during the period of seeking treatment for the child, thieves allegedly broke into his workshop and stole several items, including metal doors intended for construction projects, further worsening the family’s financial situation.
He appealed to the Government, philanthropists, corporate organisations and stakeholders in the health sector to assist the family in obtaining appropriate medical care for the child.
The family expressed optimism that timely intervention and specialised treatment would improve the child’s condition and ease their challenges.
