Accra, June 1, GNA – Discovery Health has announced the rebranding of its employer health insurance business, Vitality Health International (Africa), to Discovery Health – Global Health Solutions, effective January 1, 2026.
The company said the transition reflected the evolution of its health insurance operations across Africa and introduces expanded healthcare solutions aimed at meeting the changing needs of employers and their workforce across the continent.
Under the new brand, Discovery Health and Global Health Solutions will continue to integrate health insurance offerings with the Vitality wellness programme while expanding its healthcare administration and managed care capabilities.
In Ghana, the company will maintain its partnership with Acacia Health Insurance, a member of the Enterprise Group, which has served as its in-market insurance partner since 2023.
Mrs Emma Knox, Chief Executive Officer of Discovery Health and Global Health Solutions said although the company’s name had changed, its commitment to improving people’s health and protecting lives remained unchanged.
She explained that the rebranding would support the future growth of the business by strengthening its partnership model with local insurers across Africa and broadening its healthcare solutions portfolio.
According to her, the company would continue working with in-market insurers to deliver employer-focused health insurance solutions tailored to the needs of employees while also introducing new offerings such as Administration Services Only (ASO), a comprehensive healthcare administration solution.
“The rebranding enables us to expand into a broader range of healthcare services while continuing to provide solutions that address the individual healthcare needs of employees across Africa,” she said.
Mrs Knox noted that the partnership with Acacia Health Insurance had played a significant role in establishing the business in Ghana and would remain central to its growth strategy.
She said both organisations shared a commitment to innovation, service excellence and improving health outcomes for employers and employees.
Mrs Araba Asumanu, Managing Director of Acacia Health Insurance, described the transition as a significant milestone in the development of the business.
She said the expanded Global Health Solutions platform would strengthen collaboration between the two organisations and enhance their ability to respond to the evolving healthcare needs of employers and workers in Ghana.
“The expansion from Vitality Health International to Global Health Solutions marks an important milestone in the maturity of the business, and we look forward to deepening our partnership to deliver quality healthcare solutions,” she said.
Discovery Health said employers across Africa would continue to benefit from the expertise of Discovery Health, South Africa’s largest medical aid administrator and managed care service provider, which had supported the operations of the business over the years.
The company noted that its healthcare administration capabilities were backed by more than three decades of experience in clinical governance, risk management and healthcare data analytics.
Mrs Knox said Discovery Health’s operational support had helped deliver improved health outcomes and sustainable healthcare cost management for organisations operating across the continent.
She indicated that the new Global Health Solutions platform would move beyond traditional health insurance by creating an integrated healthcare ecosystem for employers.
The platform, she explained, would combine tailored health insurance products, wellness programmes, healthcare administration services and advanced clinical support to provide a more comprehensive healthcare solution for businesses and their employees.
Mrs Knox said the company remained committed to Discovery’s core purpose of making people healthier and enhancing and protecting their lives while supporting employers across Africa with innovative healthcare solutions.
