Accra, June 27, GNA – Ghana and Croatia face off in a decisive World Cup Group L encounter on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the Philadelphia Stadium with qualification for the Round of 32 hanging in the balance.

Separated by one point and one place in the standings, Ghana (four points) and Croatia (three points) go into the match knowing the stakes, although their paths to progression differ.

Ghana, who arrived in Philadelphia on Thursday evening, can advance to the knockout stage with at least a draw, having remained just behind Group L leaders England on goal difference.

Victory could even see the Black Stars finish top if England drop points against Panama.

The Black Stars could also progress as one of the best third-placed teams even with a loss but certainly Carlos Queiroz’s side would want to control their destiny.

The four-time African champions are aiming to reach the World Cup knockout phase for the first time since their run to the quarterfinals in 2010.

Croatia, however, must secure all three points to guarantee progression and avoid relying on other results or a potentially tense wait as one of the best third-placed teams.

Saturday’s clash would mark the first-ever meeting between the two nations at senior international level.

Team news

Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi remains a doubt after sustaining a muscle injury in the opening match against Panama, paving the way for Benjamin Asare to impress in the 1-1 draw with England. The Hearts of Oak shot-stopper made three key saves and is expected to retain his place.

Captain Jordan Ayew is likely to continue in attack despite strong competition from Prince Kwabena Adu, who came close to netting a late winner against England.

Croatia, meanwhile, have a fully fit squad, but head coach Zlatko Dalic faces a selection decision in attack following Ante Budimir’s winning impact off the bench against Panama. Budimir could be rewarded with a starting role ahead of Petar Musa.

Defender Josko Gvardiol, who was withdrawn at halftime in the last match, is expected to keep his place in the starting lineup.

Probable lineups:

Ghana: Asare (GK); Senaya, Adjetey, Opoku, Mensah; Yirenkyi, Partey, Sibo; Issahaku, Ayew, Semenyo.

Croatia: Livakovic (GK); Stanisic, Pongracic, Sutalo, Gvardiol; Kovacic, Modric; Baturina, Pasalic, Perisic; Budimir.

Kick-off is at 2100 GMT.
