Zini (UW/R), May 15, GNA – The Buwa Traditional Council in the Sissala West District has renamed the refugee camp at Zini “Tenni Woron” as part of efforts to properly reintegrate the refugees at the camp.
The move is aimed at reducing stigma against the refugees and restoring their dignity while fostering hope among residents.
Thousands of refugees, who fled conflict from Burkina Faso and other parts of the Sahel because of attacks by jihadists, had been settled at the Zini Refugee Camp.
The renaming of the camp was announced by Kuoro Diyaka Sukabe Ninia V, the Paramount Chief of the Buwa Traditional Area, at Zini during the celebration of the 2026 Kelwie Festival.
Speaking to Ghana News Agency (GNA), Kuoro Diyaka said: “Teni Woron means, “It will end well”, for all those refugees who, not their fault, but have to flee their country to somewhere in search of peace.
“We anticipate, therefore, by the time they reconnect with their families, it will end well with them,” he explained.
The Paramount Chief added that landowners had voluntarily released parcels of land to the camp residents for cultivation, promoting self-reliance and food security.
The integration of Tenni Woron Camp leadership into mainstream community governance was also cited as a key milestone.
He acknowledged the contributions of several development partners, including international and local Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs), for their continued support in achieving those successes.
He mentioned the partnership with the Ghana Refugee Board (GRB), United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), International Organisation for Migration (IOM), Eorod Vision International, the World Food Programme, CAPECs and the Sissala West District Assembly’s collaboration as being beneficial to the host community and the residents.
He emphasised that resilient communities had the potential to reduce poverty, promote inclusive governance, improve education, and adopt sustainable environmental practices.

Speaking at the festival, Mr Mohammed Adams Sukparu, the Member of Parliament for Sissala West Constituency, emphasised the need for unity, peace, and social cohesion, which remained indispensable to the pursuit of accelerated and sustainable development.
He mentioned some strategic development interventions undertaken through his office within the Buwa Zone to include rural electrification, expansion of rural telephony networks, improvement of road infrastructure, investments in educational facilities, provision of potable water and enhancement of healthcare delivery.
Mr Sukparu, also the Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, presented a donation of GHC10,000.00 to support the festival celebration.
