Takoradi, May 27, GNA – Mr Joseph Nelson, the Western Regional Minister, has called on the Muslim community to unite and uphold proper sanitation practices to help stem incidents of flooding and related problems within the region.

He made the call when he joined worshippers to observe this year’s Eid-ul-Adha prayers at the Takoradi Central Mosque.

The Eid prayer was attended by hundreds of Muslim worshippers clad in white clothes to signify their joy and happiness.

The Regional Minister stated that recent flooding cases had already caused severe havoc to lives and properties within the region and other parts of the country.

“The rains have started and we all have seen how it is causing flooding problems in some parts of our region, and the entire country, so we must be conscious of how we manage our waste and not throw rubbish in our drains,” Mr Nelson stated.

He noted that apart from the issue of flooding, improper waste management also bred environmental health problems like cholera outbreak.

“My plea is for all of us here to unite for a massive sanitation drive before the increasing rains bring more disasters to our doorsteps,” Mr Nelson added.

He also urged the Muslims to celebrate their Eid-ul-Adha festivities in peace and harmony with one another to help build a cohesive society for all.
