Bechem, (Ahafo), May 18, GNA – A total of 12,303 candidates are writing the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the Ahafo Region, Mr Yaw Frimpong, the Ahafo Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service has said.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Bechem, he said candidates comprised 5,126 males and 7,137 females.
He said that 9,774 of the candidates were drawn from 18 public schools with 2,529 of them from eight private schools.
Mr Frimpong said that the candidates were writing the exams in 24 centers across the region, adding that adequate measures had been put in place to make the WASSCE successful.
He added that about 613 invigilators and 25 supervisors had been assigned overseeing the examination, saying that the GES in the region had also set up monitoring teams to stem examination malpractices.
Mr Frimpong said adequate security arrangements had been made to maintain law and order at the various examination centers and wished the candidates well, urging them to eschew all forms of examination malpractices.
