By Charles Tawiah/, GNA

Mankranso, May 26, GNA – Mr. Abubakar Sedik, the Ahafo Ano South-West District Chief Executive (DCE), has commended the Government for the timely release of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), saying it was helping to accelerate the implementation of Assembly projects and programmes.

He said the prompt disbursement of funds enabled Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to execute planned programmes and projects within stipulated timelines for the benefit of targeted communities and vulnerable groups.

Mr. Sedik said this when the Assembly distributed start-up items and financial support valued at about GH¢100,000 to 24 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) from selected communities in the district at Mankranso.

He expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and the Government for the timely release of the funds, which had enabled the Assembly to extend support to the beneficiaries in addition to 62 others who benefited last year.

The DCE pledged his commitment to the implementation of planned projects and programmes to ensure that intended beneficiaries received the needed support.

He also assured that more PWDs in the district who were yet to benefit from the programme would be considered in subsequent distributions.

Out of the 24 beneficiaries, one received an okada tricycle; three were presented with deep freezers, while 12 received start-up capital under the economic empowerment category.

Additionally, two beneficiaries received healthcare support, while six others benefited from educational sponsorship packages aimed at improving their livelihoods and promoting self-reliance.

Mr. Mengisto Opoku Akowuah, District Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, said the department had also initiated measures to address other challenges confronting PWDs in the district.

He said the Assembly had engaged the District Disability Federation to address concerns relating to accessibility to public facilities and to ensure the inclusion of PWDs in future development initiatives and programmes.

Mr. Akowuah urged the beneficiaries to use the items and financial support for their intended purposes to enable them achieve sustainable livelihoods.

He disclosed that the department would closely monitor the use of the support packages to ensure that they were utilised in line with the objectives of the programme.

Mr. Kwame Sukoto, a beneficiary who received the tricycle, commended the Government for support, describing it as a sustainable intervention that would improve their livelihoods.
