Sunyani Traditional Council gets Customary Lands Secretariat

Sunyani, (Bono), May 8, GNA-The Sunyani Traditional Council inaugurated a Customary Lands Secretariat (CLS) to oversee the proper management of the Sunyani stool lands. 
 
The secretariat is also tasked to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to address land litigations and stem multiple sales of lands through its Alternative Disputes Resolution Committee. 
 
Mr Gad Asorwoe Akwensivie, a representative from the Office of the Administrator of Stool Lands (OASL) headquarters in Accra who inaugurated the secretariat at a ceremony held at the Nana Bosoma Royal Palace in Sunyani. 
 
It was attended by traditional authorities, security services, and faith-based organisations as well as Heads of Departments and Agencies. 
 
Mr Akwensivie noted that proper management of lands remained a prerequisite for accelerated national development, saying that presently the nation had about 100 CLSs. 
 
He expressed the hope that the CLSs would work hard to enhance effective land governance to promote proper city and town planning and urged the Sunyani CLS to manage the stool lands well and to boost investor confidence. 
 
Mr Akwensivie asked personnel and management of the secretariat to uphold integrity in the discharge of their duties. 
 
Mrs Georgina Rockson, the Bono and Bono East Regional Officer OASL explained the secretariat was a specialized office established by law to keep land records in the country. 
 
She explained that OASL was mandated to collaborate with Traditional authorities to ensure proper protection and management of stool lands, saying that it also served as a link between the lands commission, government and individual land agencies. 
 
Nana Kwadwo Addae Mununkum Korang, the Administrator of the Secretariat of the Sunyani CLS pledged their dedication to be accountable, fair and transparent in the land administration. 
 
“We will also ensure due diligence for equity, and peaceful coexistence among families and land owners in Sunyani”, he assured. 
 
Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, the Paramount Chief of Sunyani advised personnel of the secretariat to facilitate proper demarcation of lands to prevent disputes and litigations.
