Hohoe (V/R), May 15, GNA – A total of 665 households from 23 communities in the Hohoe Municipality have been enrolled onto the E-zwich platform and are benefiting from cash grants under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme.

The Hohoe Department of Social Welfare and Community Development facilitated the disbursement of GH¢1,266,816.00 to beneficiaries, covering the 93rd to 99th payment cycles of the programme.

Mr Prosper Kumi, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), announced this in his sessional address at the First Ordinary Meeting of the Third Session of the Ninth Hohoe Municipal Assembly.

He said the Assembly had recorded a significant increase in grants to beneficiaries in recent cycles of the programme.

Mr Kumi stated that in line with the Assembly’s strategy to reduce inequalities and promote inclusive participation in local economic development, 80 assorted start-up kits had been procured and distributed to 70 beneficiaries, made up of 41 females and 29 males.

The items included deep freezers, industrial sewing machines, wire mesh, knitting machines, cassava milling machines and fufu pounding machines.

He said the Assembly would continue to empower Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) to contribute to national development.

Mr Kumi noted that the updated register showed an increase in the number of PLWDs with active National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards from 849 to 905 as of December 2025.

He commended the Municipal Health Directorate for improving immunisation campaigns, maternal health interventions, family planning education, adolescent health empowerment and infection prevention measures.

On public health, he said the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccination campaign conducted in the last quarter of 2025 targeted 7,842 girls aged between nine and 14 years.

The Municipality received 7,600 doses of HPV vaccines, out of which 6,352 were administered, while the remaining 1,248 unopened vials were returned to the Regional Cold Room.

Mr Kumi said residents had consistently called for the upgrade of facilities at the Volta Regional Hospital in Hohoe, adding that the Assembly would collaborate with stakeholders to improve health service delivery.

On sanitation, he said the Assembly had launched the Municipal Sanitation Programme, which had recruited personnel and equipped them adequately to manage solid waste in critical areas.

Equipment procured under the programme included 10 tricycles, 40 dustbins, five slashers, two motorbikes, a mower, two blower-spraying machines, 100 pairs of Wellington boots, 10 wheelbarrows, 120 overall uniforms, 100 reflector jackets, 80 long brooms, 10 metal rakes, 100 dusters and 20 cutlasses.

Mr Kumi expressed concern over low participation in the National Sanitation Day clean-up exercise and called on traditional authorities to ensure active involvement in their respective communities.

He said the Assembly had constructed mechanised boreholes across the Municipality to augment water supply from the Ghana Water Company and planned to construct more.

Mr Kumi further disclosed that the Business Resource Centre, under the Ghana Enterprises Agency, had provided business counselling services to 164 persons, comprising 101 females and 63 males.

The Centre had also conducted coaching and mentoring sessions for beneficiaries under the Ghana Jobs and Skills Project, trained 27 youth in ginger processing (16 females and 11 males), and provided fashion design training for an additional 27 youth.
