Accra, May 29, GNA – Saka Homes Limited, a property development company, has partnered with GETFund to construct a 250-bed dormitory facility for the Achimota Senior High School (SHS) in Accra.
The facility, to be constructed at a cost of Ghc18,702,819.00, will help reduce accommodation challenges, promote long-term educational infrastructure and ensure equal access to education.
Mr Ebenezer Kwadwo Saka Addi-Mensah, the Managing Director of Saka Homes, said the gesture was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility in responding to the infrastructure needs of the school.
“It is an initiative that has been on my heart for a long time. Achimota School is my alma mater,” he said.
“Five years ago, I built a 48-bed ward and donated it to the school. It has always been my desire that I will do something for the school.”
GETFund is collaborating with the Ghana Revenue Authority to give some tax reliefs to private companies for helping the Fund to undertake infrastructural projects.
Mr Addo-Mensah commended the GETFund for the initiative and encouraged other businesses and philanthropists to support the Fund to expand infrastructure across the country.
Mr Alexis K. Asuinura, the Financial Controller, GETFund, lauded the company’s response to the Fund’s initiative of helping to address the infrastructure gap across the school environment.
He expressed confidence that many companies would get on board to support the Fund to deliver on its mandates.
The initiative, he said, allowed the companies to brand the completed projects with their logo to give visibility, urging other companies to come on board to develop the country.
The GETFund has, since its inception, remained a significant player in Ghana’s education sector – not only through providing physical infrastructure, but also through enhancing human capital by awarding scholarships to many deserving citizens.
Mr Asuinura said the Fund had remained committed to its mandate as enshrined in its governing legislation, Act 581, to provide funding to supplement the Government’s efforts in providing educational infrastructure and facilities at all levels.
