Prez Mahama deserves additional term of office – Voice of Patriotic Citizens

Sunyani (Bono), May 29, GNA – The Voice of Patriotic Citizens, an emerging socio-political group, has stated that President John Dramani Mahama deserves an additional term of office to enable him achieve his vision of advancing progressive growth and sustainable national development.

The group indicated that although President Mahama’s one-and-a-half-year administration had been commendable, the four-year constitutional mandate remained insufficient to accelerate the pace of sustainable development.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Mr Frank Adjapong, Convener of the group, said politics should primarily serve as a tool for accelerating national development and progress.

“So, from what we are witnessing in our country now, from the ‘Big Push’ to ‘Feed Ghana’, and from ‘Free Primary Health Care’ to ‘MahamaCares’, as well as the ‘Nkoko Nketenkete’ initiative, we are on the path to economic prosperity,” he stated.

Mr Adjapong, however, expressed concern that the numerous socio-economic and health intervention programmes could become ineffective if the current administration was not given an additional term beyond the 2028 general election.

He acknowledged that the 1992 Constitution does not permit a sitting President to seek a third term in office, but argued that President Mahama had not served two consecutive terms as stipulated under the Constitution.

Mr Adjapong further noted that Ghana’s development would continue to stagnate unless citizens moved away from entrenched partisan politics.

“In fact, this is why the Voice of Patriotic Citizens is advocating that President Mahama must be given another term to enable him to achieve his vision for the nation and to build a better Ghana for us all,” he justified.

He explained that the group comprised mainly youth drawn from different political backgrounds who had united to monitor national development in sectors such as health, chieftaincy, agriculture, and education.
