Badu (Bono), May 28, GNA – Dagboo Koangehewideo Bolegebea Badu Akrosumah Agyentadua V, the Paramount Chief of Badu Traditional Area in the Tain District of Bono Region has presented two brand new motorbikes to the Badu police station.
Nana Asante Dapaa III, the Kyidomhene (sub-chief) of the Badu Traditional Area who presented the motorbikes on behalf of Dagboo Koangehewideo Bolegebea Agyentadua V, said the gesture was aimed at helping the police personnel to fight crime in the area.
Speaking at a short ceremony at Badu, Nana Dapaa III explained that the machines reflected the traditional authority’s dedication to support and partner with the police in crime combat.
He said Badu was a vast area, hence the need for the traditional authority to support the police to beef up patrols in the local communities, saying that the community members were predominantly cocoa and cashew farmers.
“The we also have border areas that require constant police patrols”, Nana Dapaa III stated, adding that: “The motorbikes aren’t a luxury but a necessity in fighting crime waves”.
He expressed the optimism that with the motorbikes police personnel could reach out to the remote communities and villages, saying that: “The police are our sons and daughters and if they lack logistics then we must support them”.
Nana Dapaa III noted that “criminals here have become bold because they think because of their motorbikes, they can outrun the police. But today that advantage is no more because the police also have motorbikes to chase them”.
He commended the police personnel at the Badu police station for their dedication to protect lives and properties amid inadequate resources and urged them to redouble their efforts to help control the crime wave in the area.
Nana Dapaa II noted that modern policing remained collective responsibility and called on the public to support the police, urging the police personnel to build and strengthen police-civilian relationships too.
The Chief Inspector Samuel Dzime, the Station Officer at the Badu Asuafu Police station who received the machines thanked the paramount chief for the kindness and pledged to ensure that the motorbikes were used for the intended purpose.
He said the machines would greatly enhance police patrols in the area and appealed to the police administration to post more personnel to the area.
Chief Inspector Dzime noted that inadequate personnel were severely undermining police operations, saying that the station had only eight personnel.
