Kintampo, (Bono East), May 28, GNA-Sheikh Yussif Baba Tanko, the Kintampo Municipal Chief Imam in the Bono East Region has called on the government to create an independent or separate ministry for religious affairs.
Addressing thousands of Muslims durbar to mark the Eid-ul-Adha celebration at Kintampo, he noted that the blend of the religious affairs and local government as ministry was not helping the chieftaincy institution.
He noted that peace remained the hallmark and prerequisite for development, adding that: “The master card of peace is religion”, urging a separate ministry for religious affairs to promote and strengthen the prevailing peace of the nation.
Sheik Tanko said that an independent ministry for religious affairs was required to enhance policy formulation and good governance.
He advised the Muslim youth in particular to respect the elderly and eschew acts of lawlessness.
Nana Yusif Koulibaly Fanyinamah III, the Wangara Paramount Chief of the Kintampo Traditional Area also added his voice on the creation of a separate ministry for the religious affairs.
“The current ministry is overburdened with policy decisions because it embodies three distinguishable disciplines”, he stated, saying that separating religious affairs from local government would greatly help policy formulation and implementation.
Nana Fanyinamah III commended the government for the massive infrastructural development being executed in the country and appealed to the government to ensure that the Kintampo Traditional Area also had its share of the national cake.
