Dambai (O/R), May 05, GNA – A 25-year-old man, shot dead near Olivia Drinking Spot in Nkwanta in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region has been identified as Richmond Benye Ayitey, the Oti Regional Coordinating Council (ORCC) has confirmed.
A statement signed by the Mr John Kwadwo Gyapong Ababio, the Oti Regional Minister, said the incident occurred at about 2030 hours on Saturday, May 2, 2026.
It said a joint team of Police, Military, BNI and Defence Intelligence personnel responded to the scene and found the victim, identified lying in a pool of blood.
The deceased, described as an Akyode, had sustained multiple pellet wounds to the right side of the head, neck and shoulder.
He was rushed to St. Joseph Hospital, Nkwanta, for treatment but was pronounced dead at about 2230 hours while receiving medical care.
The body has been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Mr Gyapong, on behalf of the people of the Oti Region, extended condolences to the bereaved family and assured them that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
The statement said the Regional Security Council was working to apprehend those responsible and that further developments would be communicated.
It said REGSEC remained committed to maintaining peace and security in the Nkwanta South Municipality and the Oti Region and would not allow any person or group to destabilise the relative peace in the area.
The Regional Minister urged all parties to use legal and traditional dispute resolution mechanisms to address any grievances or misunderstandings.
