Kpassa (O/R), May 15, GNA – The Nkwanta North District Assembly, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, has handed over a meat delivery van and commissioned a new slaughterhouse to improve hygiene, food safety and livelihoods in the district.
The intervention, unveiled at Kpassa, is aimed at addressing poor meat handling and transportation practices that pose health risks to consumers.
The turquoise-coloured vehicle, branded “Nkwanta North District Assembly Meat Delivery Van NNDA/DACF/01”, is expected to ensure hygienic transportation of meat from the slaughterhouse to markets and households across the district.
The newly constructed slaughterhouse is also designed to provide a safe and hygienic environment for butchers to process meat for public consumption.
Mr Isaiah Kudjoe Dordoe, District Chief Executive (DCE), speaking at the ceremony, said the projects formed part of the Assembly’s broader efforts to enforce sanitation regulations, improve public health outcomes and create a safer environment for meat processing.
He urged beneficiaries to maintain the facility and vehicle properly to ensure sustainability and long-term benefits to the community.
Mr John Oti Bless, the MP, said the intervention underscored the Assembly’s commitment to initiatives that directly impact livelihoods and public health.
“Thousands of people depend on meat supplied by butchers daily. We cannot allow them to get sick because of poor handling and transportation. That is why my office and the District Assembly collaborated to provide a safer and healthier facility for the butchers at Kpassa,” he said.

The MP pledged continued support for similar development projects aimed at improving living conditions and economic activities in the district.
Beneficiaries, including butchers and meat vendors, expressed appreciation for the intervention, noting that the new slaughterhouse and delivery van would reduce post-slaughter losses, improve hygiene standards and boost their incomes.
Officials said the initiative would strengthen the Assembly’s capacity to monitor and regulate meat processing activities in line with public health guidelines.
