Kadjebi (O/R), May 07, GNA – Two out of the six examination centres in the Kadjebi District have recorded six cases of absenteeism in the ongoing 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), authorities have confirmed.
The absenteeism was recorded at the Kadjebi-Asato Senior High School Examination Centre (KASEC) “A” and “B” centres during the first days of the nationwide examination.
Mr Christopher Agorkle, the Kadjebi District Examination Officer, disclosed this in a Daily Monitoring Report copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Thursday, May 7.
According to the report, KASEC Centre “A”, which registered 358 candidates made up of 191 males and 167 females, recorded five absentees involving three males and two females.
KASEC Centre “B”, with a total of 262 registered candidates comprising 124 males and 138 females, also recorded one absentee, a male candidate.
However, the Dodi-Papase Senior High School (DOPASS) Centres “A” and “B” as well as Dodo-Amanfrom Centres “A” and “B” recorded full attendance with no absenteeism.
Mr Agorkle said the conduct of the examination across the district had so far been peaceful and incident-free, with no cases of examination malpractice reported as of Wednesday, May 6.
He commended supervisors, invigilators, security personnel and officials of the Ghana Education Service (GES) for their commitment towards ensuring a smooth and credible examination process.
“We are satisfied with the level of coordination and discipline exhibited by both candidates and examination officials,” he stated, expressing optimism that the exercise would continue without any challenges until its conclusion.
The District Examination Officer also appealed to candidates to remain focused and desist from any form of malpractice that could jeopardise their academic future.
A total of 1,440 candidates, comprising 745 males and 695 females, registered for the 2026 BECE in the Kadjebi District.
The figure represents a slight decrease compared to the number of candidates, 1,467 in 2025, made up of 765 males and 702 females.
The BECE, which is being conducted simultaneously across Ghana, is expected to end later this week.
