Gov’t receives significant contributions from stakeholders ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup

Accra, May 2, GNA – The Ministry of Finance has received significant financial contributions from corporate institutions and stakeholders to support the Senior National football team, the Black Stars, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Mr Thomas Nyarko Ampem, the Deputy Minister and Chairman of the Black Stars Fundraising Committee, received the contributions on behalf of the Government at a brief event in Accra.

He expressed appreciation to all contributors, describing the gesture as a demonstration of collective commitment towards the success of the national team.

He gave the assurance that the Committee would continue engaging stakeholders to mobilise resources to adequately prepare the Black Stars for the global tournament.

Leading the contributions, Engineers and Planners made a payment of US$2 million as part of its pledged of US$5 million.

Timeline and Innovation also contributed GH100,000 towards the fund.

Additional donations were received from key financial institutions, including First Bank GHC553,500, GT Bank GHC2,236,000, First Atlantic Bank GHC1,102,000, and the Petroleum Commission GHC500,000.

Mr Ibrahim Mahama, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Engineers and Planners, reiterated the company’s commitment to fulfilling its pledge, noting that supporting the Black Stars was a contribution to national pride and unity.

Pastor Dr Felix Osomboafo, the Head of Monitoring at Timeline and Innovation, confirmed that his company had redeemed part of its pledge.

The amount was a part payment of a US$300,000 pledge to support the Black stars, he added.
