Government begins construction of 24-Hour market at Ejura

Ejura (Ash), May 25, GNA – Dr Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has cut the sod for the construction of a 24-hour model market at Ejura, in the Ejura Sekyedumase Municipality. 

The project, which forms part of Government’s ongoing “Resetting Agenda,” comes with essential facilities including a police station, fire station, clinic, pharmacy, model school, restaurants, women’s bank, warehouse, lockable stores, open stalls, and other key amenities to support round-the-clock commercial activity. 

Speaking at the ceremony, the Regional Minister, said the initiative was part of the government’s vision to establish similar centres across all districts to drive the 24-hour economy agenda and stimulate local economic growth. 

The Minister expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for the transformative initiative, and to the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs for his leadership and commitment to its implementation. 

He also commended the collaborative efforts of the Member of Parliament (MP), Mr Mohammed Bawah Bariamah and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Rafiu Adams Seidu for their continued contribution to the development of the Municipality. 

Dr Frank Amoakohene urged the chiefs and people of the area to cooperate to enable the contractor to speed up and complete the project on time. 

The MCE, on his part, expressed gratitude to President Mahama and the Ashanti Regional Minister for giving the people of Ejura Sekyedumase Municipality their fair share of the “national cake.” 

He said that with the help of the chiefs and the MP, the Assembly had been able to undertake numerous projects through the District Assembly’s Common Fund.  

He mentioned, for instance, the construction of five Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds, classroom blocks, toilet facilities, refuse evacuation and the drilling of 20 mechanised boreholes, among others. 

Barima Osei Hwedie II, the Chief of Ejura, who was the chairperson for the event, praised the government, the MP, and the MCE for their collaborative efforts and performance for their short stay in office. 

He pledged the traditional council’s readiness to support the government by providing land for developmental projects in the Ejura Sekyedumase Municipality.
