GETFund briefs Asantehene on GHS 400 million KNUST Teaching Hospital contract

Accra, May 13, GNA – The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), has paid a working visit to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to brief him on the award of a GHS 400 million Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Teaching Hospital contract. 

The visit led by its Administrator, Mr. Paul Adjei, was to update the Asantehene on the successful award of the contract for the procurement of medical equipment for the new Hospital. 

He also outlined the implementation roadmap for the landmark healthcare project, which forms part of government’s programme to strengthen tertiary healthcare infrastructure and elevate public universities into centres of excellence. 

A statement from GETfund copied to the Ghana News Agency said, Mr. Adjei explained that the new facility would be equipped with modern medical technologies to support clinical training, medical research, and specialized healthcare services. 

Mr. Adjei reaffirmed GETFund’s commitment to supporting strategic institutions through targeted investments in education and healthcare, assuring the Asantehene of the Fund’s resolve to ensure successful implementation of the project. 

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for his commitment to advancing healthcare and tertiary education infrastructure and commended the GETFund Administrator for his dedication to realising the vision of establishing the teaching hospital. 

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II noted that the project would significantly improve healthcare delivery in the Ashanti Region and contribute to expanding services nationwide. He emphasised the importance of investing in modern healthcare infrastructure and medical education to support national development. 

The KNUST Teaching Hospital, once operational, is expected to serve as a major hub for clinical training, advanced medical research, and specialized healthcare delivery for Ghana and the West African sub-region.
