Accra, May 31, GNA – The Reverend Christian K. Vorleto, a pastor of the Global Evangelical Church (GEC), has received recognition as one of the recipients of the 2026 JoyNews Impact Makers Awards.

He was honoured with the Mental Health and WASH Impact Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to community mental health care and social welfare in the Volta Region.

Rev. Vorleto was  recognised for his pioneering work through the Bubume Mental Health Foundation, an initiative dedicated to the rehabilitation and reintegration of persons with mental health conditions who were living on the streets.

He was commended for his compassion, commitment and innovative approach to community-based care.

According to records presented by the Foundation, 78 cases have been managed so far, with 58 persons reportedly recovering successfully.

Of that number, 32 have been fully reintegrated into society, with many now engaged in farming and other income-generating activities.

Receiving the award on behalf of the Foundation, Rev. Vorleto highlighted several communities that had benefited from its interventions, including Anyanui, Salo, Dzita, Torve, Dabala Junction, Sokpoe, Agave and Dzeve-Tato.

He said the Foundation’s work had not only restored dignity and hope to vulnerable persons but had also reduced the burden on the state, estimating savings of nearly GH¢2 million in potential public care costs.

Much of the Foundation’s activities had been funded through personal contributions and sacrificial support from well-wishers, he disclosed.

Rt. Rev. Prosper Samuel Dzomeku, Moderator of the Global Evangelical Church, congratulated Rev. Vorleto on the recognition and praised his consistency, dedication and passion for humanitarian service.

He prayed for God’s continued grace and strength for him and encouraged the Foundation to maintain comprehensive documentation of its activities to support future reference and impact assessment.

Rt. Rev. Dzomeku also expressed confidence that the resources and partnerships needed to expand the initiative would emerge in due course.

Rev. Vorleto was among 12 distinguished individuals and organisations honoured at the 2026 JoyNews Impact Makers Awards on May 15.

It is an annual event that celebrates people whose work is transforming lives and making meaningful contributions to communities across Ghana.
