Wenchi (Bono), May 13, GNA – Mr Frank Kwabena Adu, the Wenchi District Manager of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) in the Bono Region, has expressed concern about the increasing involvement of minors in riding motorcycles and tricycles (popularly known as “Pragyia”) for commercial purposes.
He emphasised that it is an offence for owners to allow unlicensed riders or minors to operate their motorbikes or tricycles, explaining that both the owners and the riders would be prosecuted if found culpable.
In an interview with the media at Wenchi, Mr Adu warned that offenders would be prosecuted under Section 42 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180), which prescribes punitive sanctions.
He described the situation as worrying, noting that “what was once regarded as unlawful and socially unacceptable is now viewed as normal.”
Mr Adu advised owners of motorcycles and tricycles to ensure that only licensed riders operate their machines for commercial activities or be prepared to face the full rigours of the law.
He also called on traditional authorities and politicians to allow law enforcement agencies to perform their duties without interference.
