Concerned Acherensua youth appeals to Asantehene for new paramount chief

Acherensua, (Ahafo), May 30, GNA-Some concerned youth at Acherensua in the Asutifi South District of the Ahafo Region have called on the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to facilitate the enstoolment of a new paramount chief in the area.

They said the Acherensua Traditional Stool owed allegiance to the Asanteman Council.

According to them, the prolonged enstoolment of a new chief had impeded the development process since the passing of the late Paramount Chief of the Acherensua Traditional Area, Nana Agyewodin Adu-Gyamfi Ampem II six years ago.

Clad in red armbands and headgears to demonstrate their displeasure, the irate young men and women told the media that the development of the area had been neglected due to the prolonged absence of a new paramount chief.

“In fact, the lack of a substantive paramount chief has slowed down development processes and deprived us of our share of the sharing of the national cake”, Mr Samuel Manu, the spokesperson stated at a news conference at Acherensua.

He said the lack of the paramount chief had also made it difficult for the community members to meet and deliberate on developmental issues, woo investments and employment opportunities for the youth.

Mr Manu expressed concern about the rise in youth substance abuse and alcoholism in the area, urging Asantehene’s urgent intervention for the enstoolment of a new chief.

Madam Afia Konadu who also spoke on behalf of the young women also expressed concern about the upsurge of teenage pregnancy, girls school dropouts and growing acts of lawlessness among the youth in the area.

“We need a paramount chief to bring order in the town because it seems everybody is doing what he or she likes”, she stated.
