Bono NADMO presents over 100 life jackets to Banda-Bongase fishing community

Banda-Bongase, (Bono), May 11, GNA -The Bono Regional Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has presented 115 pieces of life jackets to the Banda-Bongase fishing community in the Banda District of the Region. 

Mrs Fati Kine Lam, the Bono Regional Director of the NADMO made the presentation at a short ceremony at Banda-Bongase, saying that reflective jackets were to protect the children, fishermen and fish mongers who cross the Bui dam reservoir upstream. 

She emphasised that the safety of the people remained non-negotiable, stressing the government’s dedication towards addressing emerging challenges confronting the fishing communities in the country. 

“NADMO is set up for disaster prevention and management”, Mrs Lam explained and cautioned opinion leaders in the fishing community to ensure that the jackets were utilized for the intended purposes. 

“You must ensure that those who use the boat, especially children, wear the life jacket before boarding”, she advised. 

Mrs Lam called for effective collaboration between the chiefs and the Banda District Assembly and stakeholders in ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols on the Bui Dam reservoir. 

Mr Peter Dongi, the Banda District Chief Executive also urged the community members to prioritize personal safety and endeavour to put on the jackets whenever they used the reservoir. 

Mr Yusif Dauda, the Chairman of the fishing committee in the area thanked NADMO for the support and pledged to community members to adhere to safety guidelines and to prevent accidents and disasters on the reservoir. 

He said the fishing community had about 2,000 people and appealed for more of the life jackets.
