BECE begins smoothly in Keta

Keta (VR), May 4, GNA – The 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has commenced successfully in the Keta Municipality with no major hitches recorded. 

A total of 1,350 candidates from 54 public and private basic schools began writing their papers Monday morning across seven designated centres in the municipality.   

Mr Ferdinand Amuzu, Public Relations Officer of the Keta Municipal Ghana Education Service (GES), told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that all materials arrived on time and the first paper started as scheduled.   

He said examination officials, including invigilators and supervisors, reported to their centres before 0800 hours ensuring smooth distribution of question papers.   

“We have seven examination centres including Keta Senior High Technical School (Ketasco), Keta Business College (Ketabusco), Abor Senior High School (Aborsco), Anyako Senior High School (Anyasco), Atia Senior High Technical School (Atiasec), Afiadenyigba Senior High School (Afiasec), and Kedzi AME Zion Basic School,” he said.  

Mr Amuzu disclosed that 671 boys and 679 girls were registered for the examination, representing a slight female majority.   

He said that 1,098 candidates, made up of 546 boys and 552 girls, were from 43 public schools, while 252 candidates, comprising 125 boys and 127 girls, were from 11 private schools.   

“Security personnel are at the various centres to maintain order and prevent any form of disruption.” 

Mr Amuzu commended parents, teachers, and stakeholders for their support and urged candidates to remain disciplined throughout the week-long exercise.   

He reiterated GES’ warning against examination malpractice, stating that culprits would face sanctions including cancellation of results or dismissal from the exams.   

Some supervisors at the various examination centres, appealed to all candidates to remain calm and followed all examination rules. 

Selasi Agbemabiese, a candidate from Ketasco basic who spoke to the GNA before entering the halls expressed optimism and said they were adequately prepared by their teachers.   

“My teachers and parents have done their part. I am confident I will pass and go to Ketasco.” 

The candidates are being examined in subjects including Social Studies, English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Career Technology, Computing, French, Religious and Moral Education, Creative Arts, and Arabic.
