Agona Swedru (C/R), May 13, GNA – Members of the Agona West branch of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have called for the release of its Constituency Organiser, Mr David Essandoh popularly known as Sam Toys who was arrested by unknown gunmen to an unknown destination.

According to the Members led by Constituency Chairman, Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, the rambo -style of arrest did not augur well for rule of law and true democratic practices in the country.

Addressing a press conference at Agona Swedru, Ahaji Tanko said the NPP believed in democracy but the kind of autocracy the ruling NDC was practicing would not promote peace and harmony in the country.

He said the NPP was not against prosecuting some of its members who made mistakes against the state in the discharge of their duties, however, arrests at gun point by CID or the National Security was against the country’s democratic governance.

He appealed to the President John Mahama, the IGP and the National Security to release Mr Essandoh and follow due process if he was at fault.

The Constituency Chairman said, Mr Essandoh was picked up on Monday, May 11, 2026, at 17:30hrs at his residence at Eguabiriso, a suburb of Agona Swedru in the Agona West Municipality of the Central Region.

“We are protesting vehemently to demand for the immediate release of our Constituency Organise who has been arrested and taken to an unknown destination by gun men, creating panic and fear among the entire members of the party and the Swedru community,” the Chairman said.

He stated that the ruling NDC’s diversional tactics was uncalled for and urged the Party to put a stop to it and focus on fulfilling the promises given to Ghanaians.

The Chairman noted hat the NDC should focus on issues confronting the youth concerning mass unemployment to reduce financial difficulties.

Mr Michael Forson, Assemblyman for Eguabiriso/Mangoase Electoral Area, an eyewitness, said he was sitting together with Mr Essandoh on same bench when a Land Cruiser came to pack in front of them.

The Assemblyman said the driver came down with a pistol and asked Mr Essandoh to board the vehicle.

Mr Forson said other guys wielding  AK-47 assault rifles also alighted from a second Land Cruiser, and  ordered Mr Essandoh to board the car, but he (Mr Forson) asked them where they were taking  Mr Essandoh , but  they ignored him , even though he told them he was the Assemblyman and sped off.

The members in red bands and attires, chanted war songs and demanded the release of their organiser.
