Abamba queenmother’s murder: IGP announces arrest of eight suspects

Atebubu (Bono East), May 23, GNA – The Police have arrested eight suspects, including some chiefs, in connection with the murder of the late Nana Serwaa Gyan Kuma, the queenmother of Abamba in the Amantin Traditional Area of the Bono East Region. 
 
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohonu disclosed this at a press briefing at Atebubu on the sidelines of his working visit to the region on Friday. 
 
The suspects comprise Nana Yaw Bediako alias Nana Yaw, Abdul- Razak Ibrahim Langa alias Zack, Nana Owusu Sahkofi II, the chief of Akokoa, Emmanuel Agyeman Darko, the Abakomahene (sub-chief) of Akokoa and Bukari Amadu, a driver. 
 
IGP Yohuno indicated that over the past year the Ghana Police Service had waged unrelentless war against criminals and criminal networks across the country. 
 
He explained that through sustained intelligence-led operations with resource and logistic support from President John Dramani Mahama, the police had successfully dismantled several violent crime syndicates throughout the country. 
 
IGP Yohuno said: “Our intelligence operations and investigations have taken the fight against the criminals and conducted several successful operations and arrested persons behind armed robberies, narcotics, child trafficking and murder. 
 
He said the police had also recovered several weapons and ammunition from the criminal gangs. 
 
At Atebubu, the IGP said the police continued to pursue criminal elements who were making the town den for their criminal activities. 
 
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCoP) Osei Shaibu said the five suspects were presently in police custody, assisting investigations. 
 
He explained that the three other suspects were arrested earlier and had since been remanded in prison custody by the Techiman District Court in the region. 
 
The three arets Michael Owusu Spermi, Rafiu Haruna and Muphtawu Adamu. 
 
The late queen-mother who operated the Ohema’s Kitchen restaurant at Atebubu was murdered on February 25, 2026, after returning home from work.
