Wa East MP pledges scholarship for 2026 BECE top candidate

Accra, April 24, GNA — Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa East, has pledged full educational sponsorship for the overall best candidate in the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), covering Senior High School through to the tertiary level.

Dr. Jasaw made the announcement during a visit to several Junior High Schools (JHS) in the district, where he monitored the ongoing mock examinations for which he is sponsoring BECE candidates.

The initiative, which has become an annual tradition, aims to prepare students adequately for their final exams, a release from the office of the MP made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said.

In addition to supporting students, the MP disclosed plans to establish a committee tasked with developing strategies to reward hardworking teachers in the district.”

He emphasised the critical role teachers played in sustaining Wa East’s consistent academic performance in the region.

The release said Dr Jasaw, addressing the candidates, urged them to take their studies seriously and strive for excellence in the upcoming BECE.

The MP was accompanied by Mr Adamu Sayibu, the District Chief Executive for Wa East, the Wa East District Education Director and some executives of the NDC in the constituency.

Both leaders encouraged the teachers to remain dedicated to their duties to further improve educational outcomes in the district.
