Accra, April 17, GNA – Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice Chancellor, University of Ghana, has hailed donors, partners, and alumni whose generosity continues to transform the lives of students through scholarships and financial aid.

Professor Amfo emphasised that behind every academic journey lies not only intellect but also opportunity, often made possible by the foresight of donors.

She made these remarks at a scholarship awards ceremony held at the University, where beneficiaries were celebrated for their resilience and academic excellence.

For the 2025/2026 academic year, the Students’ Financial Aid Office awarded a total of 1,348 new and renewing beneficiaries under various scholarship schemes.

The UG Sponsorship, administered through the Needy Fund, renewed 275 scholarships for students who demonstrated financial need and maintained a minimum GPA of 2.5.

She acknowledged the impact of the scholarships, stressing that financial support to needy students extended beyond the University and across generations. “You are not just funding education. You are expanding horizons, restoring dignity, and unlocking futures.”

She recounted her own family’s story of resilience, highlighting how education had transformed her mother’s life and created opportunities for subsequent generations.

She noted the critical role of the Students’ Financial Aid Office, the Registrar, and the Public Affairs Directorate in ensuring that no capable student was denied access to education due to financial limitations.

She urged beneficiaries to use their opportunities not only for personal advancement but also to lift others and lead with humility and excellence.

Mr. Kwabena Annor Ampofo, President of the University of Ghana Alumni Association of North America (UGANA), underscored the association’s commitment to supporting the Students’ Financial Aid Office.

He praised donors for their unwavering dedication and called on more alumni and organizations to join in widening the circle of support.

“What you give doesn’t end here. It lives on in every student who rises to greatness because someone believed in them,” he said.
