Tel Aviv, AApril 8, (dpa/GNA) – Qatar reported ongoing attacks from Iran on Wednesday, despite the ceasefire agreed hours with the US.
The Gulf state’s Ministry of Defence said, it had come under attack from Iran with seven ballistic missiles and several drones. The Qatari army successfully intercepted all of them.
The Gulf states of Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, also reported fresh attacks from Iran, even after the ceasefire was announced.
Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman, Majid al-Ansari, had welcomed the announcement of a two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran overnight as “a first step towards de-escalation.”
In a post on X, he reiterated “the urgent need to build on this to prevent tensions in the region from escalating”.
Iran and the US, agreed on a two-week ceasefire and the temporary reopening of the Strait of Hormuz overnight, under a last-ditch deal to avert a massive wave of strikes threatened by US President, Donald Trump.
The agreement, brokered by Pakistan, has received praise from politicians across the world, but concern remains over the situation in Lebanon.
The Israeli military announced a halt to attacks on Iranian targets, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, Lebanon is not included in the ceasefire.
