Kumasi, April 22, GNA – The Ashanti Regional Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organised a civic education symposium for students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to promote ethical leadership, accountability, and responsible citizenship.

The programme formed part of the Commission’s ongoing engagements with tertiary institutions to deepen civic awareness among the youth and strengthen their role in national development.

It brought together members of the KNUST Civic Education Club, student associations, and faith-based groups, including the Apostolic Students and Associates (APOSA), who participated actively in discussions.

Officials of the NCCE underscored the need for students to uphold integrity, patriotism, and discipline as future leaders, urging them to reject corruption and adhere to the rule of law in both public and private life.

A key highlight of the symposium was a presentation by a representative of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Mr. Asante Yeboah, who served as a resource person.

He took participants through anti-corruption laws, accountability mechanisms, and the importance of ethical conduct in governance and encouraged students to be bold in resisting corruption and injustice.

Madam Akua Zakaria, Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of the NCCE and Mr. Evans Nunoo, an official of the Commission, facilitated sessions on ethical leadership and civic responsibility, stressing that leadership begins with personal values such as honesty, self-discipline, and service to society.

The symposium was highly interactive, with participants posing questions and sharing perspectives on corruption, leadership challenges, and the role of young people in strengthening democratic governance.

The NCCE expressed appreciation to the management of KNUST, CHRAJ and all participating groups for their support, and reaffirmed its commitment to sustained civic education initiatives to nurture informed and responsible citizens.
