Madina (GAR) April 1, GNA – The Madina Community Hospital and Specialist Services located at Madina Ritz Junction in Accra, under the ‘Health Project’ has organised a free health screening exercise for residents of its catchment area and beyond.

The four-day exercise was in partnership with Mr Francis Xavier Kojo Sosu, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Madina Constituency, and the Madina Municipal Health Directorate.

The MPs outfit supported the exercise with publicity, working in close collaboration with assembly members, who undertook awareness creation exercises on the impending event.

Several residents visited the facility daily to take advantage of the exercise to undergo medical screening and counselling.

The screening exercise entailed basic vital checks such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, Body Mass Index.

Beneficiaries were also tested for malaria, typhoid, HIV, and their blood groups, as well as a range of medical activities including laboratory checks for normal blood sugar, urine protein, kidney, liver function, and cholesterols.

Additionally, there were screenings for cervical cancer, breast exam and breast scan, abdominal/pelvic scans, and eye tests.

Persons needing surgeries for isolated conditions were supposed to pay only half prices that covered all essentials.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Dr Dove Hutordzeso, the Chief Executive Officer of the facility, said the critical importance of regular health screening since early detection of abnormal conditions can potentially improve treatment outcomes.

He explained that, the exercise was intended to give back to the good people of the host community where it has been operating since 2021.

Dr Hutordzeso stressed the facilities’ commitment to providing quality healthcare and health support to its host community through such periodic exercises.

He disclosed that general screening which necessitated surgeries would continue till the 15th of April 2026 to accommodate more people, adding that patients were only supposed to pay half of the cost which covers surgery, anesthesia and admission.

Some of the beneficiaries were given free medical consultation by medical officers at the premises, while others were provided with medications and those with severe conditions were referred.

Through this exercise, the facility sought to emphasise the value of preventives other than curative health management, he said.

He indicated that a similar major exercise would take place later in the year.

For a section of beneficiaries whose conditions needed surgeries, the majority of cases were hernia and fibroid.

Currently, the facility is running discounted promotional surgeries for conditions such as fibroid, cesarean section, hernia, lump removal, Goitre, emergency surgeries among others till the 15th April, 2026.
