Kenneth Ofori-Atta released from ICE detention

Accra, April 8, GNA – Mr Ken Ofori‑Atta, former Minister for Finance, has been released by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following a judicial order. 

Mr Ofori‑Atta had been in ICE custody at the Caroline Detention Facility near Bowling Green, Virginia, since January 2026 over matters relating to his continued stay in the United States. 

A statement signed by Justice Kusi‑Minkah Premo, one of his lawyers, said Mr Ofori‑Atta was now with his family following his release. 

The lawyers said Mr Ofori‑Atta remained fully committed to using due process in defending his rights as guaranteed under the Constitution and laws of the United States. 

They said that he and his family are thankful to God and all those who offered prayers and support during the period.
